LSRV to host Meeteetse Longhorns for semi-final round
The Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattlers are closer to the state championship after they took the Kaycee Buckaroos out of contention on October 29, racking up a score of 62-8.
The 8 points scored against the Rattlers happened in the 1st half on a long run. Head coach Jack Cobb wasn’t upset since LSRV had a couple scores already, but he didn’t want to see any more points scored.
The defense dug in, and the Buckaroos saw no more points.
“Kaycee is a physical team and their quarterback (Harley Davis) is a very good athlete,” Cobb said. “He is long legged and long armed and hard to get a hold of. He did get away from us a few times, but we did a good job as a team containing him. ”
Cobb said Kaycee was a lot tougher opponent than the score indicates.
“After they scored, we returned the ball on the return immediately and that helped us with momentum and we never really lost it after,” Cobb said. “We had some big plays in the passing and running game. Honestly for the first time this year, we scored more touchdowns in the passing game than the running game. That was nice to see that part of our game come alive.”
Hadley Myers returned as the Rattlers’ quarterback for some of the game. He completed seven out of 11 attempts for two touchdowns and 109 yards. Zane Matheson, the quarterback for most of the season, threw 12 times and completed eight passes that included three touchdowns.
Myers also scored on a kickoff return. Seth Maxson and David Hernandez both ran a touchdown in. Maxson caught two touchdowns while Zander Risner, Isiah Skalberg and Wyatt Adams each caught a pass for a touchdown.
“It was nice to see some balance far as the passing game and running game far as scoring goes,” Cobb said. “The defense came through and it was a good game for us.”
Next is Meeteetse and Cobb said this game will be difficult.
“Going into the playoffs, I knew the way it was shaking out, that Meeteetse was going to be in the semi-finals and play us,” Cobb said. “We have known for about a month this was going to be the matchup to get us to Laramie, which all the football teams have been working towards.”
Cobb said he is not surprised that all the four teams competing for the championship are from the West.
“I predicted at the start of season, the four teams competing were going to be where they are,” Cobb said. “Now it is about having healthy kids and peaking at the right time. The four teams left now, well, it could any of us that get to Laramie.”
Cobb said winning the West was an accomplishment in itself given how strong all the teams were.
“It is going to be which team can keep their boys on the field, make plays and make stops,” Cobb said. “It is going to come down to a good old fashioned 6-man football. You got to beat the best teams to be the best.”
