Rattlers win over NCHS sophomores, will face Farson
“It was a fun day in Casper playing the Natrona sophomores and we got a lot of positives out of this game,” Jack Cobb, head of Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattler football, said about the win against the junior varsity Natrona County Mustangs.
It was a good day for the Rattlers because they came out on top, 56-6.
While it wasn’t a conference game, this continues the Rattlers undefeated streak with a season record of 6-0 along with their conference record of 4-0.
Cobb said his team keeps improving and he is glad, in October, the Rattlers are playing well.
His quarterback, Zane Matheson, passed for 157 yards and two touchdowns.
“We passed a bit more than we usually do in a game and Zane did a terrific job,” Cobb said. “We had a lot of balance from the kids on offense.”
His two leading rushers were Kannadis Peroullis with 155 yards leading to a touchdown and Cale Cheatham running for 63 yards also getting a touchdown. Zander Risner carried the ball twice and racked up 40 yards and a touchdown. David Hernadez and Seth Maxson also ran in for a touchdown each.
As a receiver. Risner had 58 yards and one reception which led to a touchdown. Peroullis had 47 yards receiving and also scored a touchdown.
Jordy Valles had four conversions scoring 8 points.
There was a lot of balance from the offense, which is exactly what Cobb likes to see in a team.
The defense stopped the Mustangs and Cobb was happy again to see many of the players he put in get tackles. Maxson led with 10 total tackles, five being solo and five assisted.
The game gave Cobb another chance for him to play kids against a well-coached team. The Natrona County football team usually has over 100 players try out and the JV team is tough.
Cobb knows although he has home field advantage, being the number one seed in the West, his march to the State Championship is hardly assured.
“You have some bruising and strong physical teams in the West that any could go all the way to the championship game,” Cobb said. “Meeteetsee was number one for a good part of the season for a reason. They got beat twice and now they are the number three seed, but those losses don’t make them any less dangerous. Maybe it makes them more determined to win. Encampment is also doing extremely well now. It really can be a couple contenders from the West going all the way. Hulett from the East is also a serious contender for the championship.”
Saturday’s game against the Farson-Eden Pronghorns is LSRV’s last regular season game and Cobb wants to make sure the 3-3 team does not get the best of the Rattlers just because the team is assured of a playoff spot.
“We know, as coaches and players, every team wants a chance to beat the number one seed,” Cobb said. “It will be up to us to make sure it doesn’t happen.”
