HEM raids Lady Vikings

Lady Miner go 3-0 against Geurnsey-Sunrise

Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Lady Miners volleyball team was hosted by the Guernsey-Sunrise Lady Vikings on Friday and left winners.

“We won in three games,” Head Coach Teira Scott said. “The first game we won 25-10 and then the other two games were actually very close.”

Scott is right.

The 2nd game had the Lady Miners win 26-24.

“It was a little closer than we would like them to be,” Scott said. “But we came out on top and that is what counts in the end.”

The last set, HEM won 25-22.

Scott had praise for the team jelling together when it had to happen.

“Sara (Sikes) and Charla (Widdison) served really well at some key times when we really needed some points and that is why we have Sara as one of our starting servers,” Scott said.

“We do depend on her to get us going for that side of the game.”

Scott had good words for her players that defendedn and attacked the net.

“Avery (Scott) and Charla got blocks and led the team in kills,” Scott said. “I thought we did some good things near the net, but of course there is always things we can do better.”

Scott said starter Rainey Wilson was out.

“That does effect the dynamics of our team,” Scott said. “We do have six seniors playing different positions on the team and different roles, so you won’t see all seniors in the starting six, but they are all playing roles when we need them.”

Scott said replacing the seniors from last year has had challenges, but the girls who are setters are doing a good job.

“We have Sara, McKaylee (Widdison) and Sara does a great job getting the sets to our hitters and starting us off in our serving rotation,” Scott said. “She does have a really good serve and she is doing the job that we need her to do.”

This week the Lady Miners will play three games.

“We have an away game on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday with all of them being away,” Scott said. “We will only be in the gym three days for practice, so we will really have to work on what we must to improve on an intense level.”

The teams HEM is playing this week is Saratoga first, Little Snake River and then Rock River.

“It is nice to play good competition,” Scott said. “I think we are all looking forward to the week and it will help the girls see where they stand and to see what they need to work on for the rest of the season too.”

The Lady Miners face the Saratoga Lady Panthers on September 14.
