Serving the Platte Valley since 1888
HEM volleyball competes in the Wind River Invite
Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Lady Miners volleyball is getting its footing as the season progresses with all the girls getting a chance to play according to head coach Teira Scott.
“This weekend allowed all of our girls the opportunity to play a lot of volleyball,” Scott said. “We were able to play some teams that we do not usually see in our regular season schedule so that was nice too.”
The Lady Miners played three teams on Friday.
“We played Wind River our first game and got off to a slow start, however we were able to regroup and fix a few things that were confusing in our rotation,” Scott said. “Then we got ready for our second game with Dubois.”
HEM did well against the Lady Rams.
“We played tough and beat Dubois in two games and then we played one game against Big Piney,” Scott said. “We also won that game 25-20.”
Scott said the team seemed to stay in system for both of the latter games on Friday which she said helped all the way around.
On Saturday, HEM faced a fellow Carbon County team with the Little Snake River Valley (LSVR) Lady Rattlers. The second day of volleyball didn’t go as well as the previous day, although Scott was happy with the team.
“On Saturday we played well and went 3-1 losing to Little Snake River in our third game of the day,” Scott said.
There was an especially bright note for Scott with the return of a varsity player.
“It was nice to have Charla in the rotation this weekend on the varsity side,” Scott said. “Our varsity girls had some great moments with their hitting and serving this weekend.”
Scott said the tournament over the weekend allowed the team and coaches the opportunity to see where they still need to work and what they had improved on from the week before.
The next game for the HEM Lady Miners will against Guernsey-Sunrise Lady Vikings in Guernsey on September 10.
