Garden beds to be constructed by C.J. Mahon
The Hanna Agricultural Resource Team (HART) met on August 24 at the Hanna Market for their monthly meeting.
The major topic was the coming construction of the new community garden.
The community garden had been moved from its location on land owned by Carbon County School District No. 2 to HART member Chris Karns' residence, temporarily, for the summer. C.J. Mahon, the construction company that needed the land where the garden had been located for a cement production facility, will create new beds for HART behind the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School.
Perry Goodrich, director of HART said, "Once we get the garden sketched out for C.J. Mahon and they get it built I am hopeful by next growing season, we should be back to normal."
P. Goodrich and the members of HART went over the dimensions of the beds and what the community garden would look like.
"I will call Joel (James of C.J. Mahon) and try to set up a meeting this week," P. Goodrich said. "That is why it is important we get the scale of what we envision figured out tonight."
The group discussed what to present to James for about 45 minutes before they were satisfied with how the garden should look.
It was decided for the upcomming meeting, P. Goodrich and assistant director Ellen Freeman would be the representatives for HART.
Linda Goodrich, secretary for HART, said the sidewalk HART was building at the Miners Cottage on the grounds of the Hanna Basin Museum was close to completion but was being delayed by the construction in front of the museum grounds.
"I haven't been able to get near the place for the past week or so," L. Goodrich said. "I am also waiting for some more bricks."
The bricks for the sidewalk are being supplied by the museum.
"I don't have that much more left to do," L. Goodrich. "If I can get there and the bricks get there, the project can get completed in a matter of a day or two."
The next meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. on September 27 at the Hanna Market.
