HEM digs in for State

Hanna track and field heads to Casper

“We ended up doing really well,” Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) coach Jackie Jones said. “The team has 10 kids going to state. On the girls side we had six regional champs.

Taylar Scott came in 1st in the triple jump going the distance of 34-09.50. Jones said that T. Scott set a regional record for the event.

“It was a big jump,” Jones said. “For a girl of her size, she amazes people. Taylar has dedicated herself to this event. She drew a little crowd of people watching her because she is doing so well.”

T. Scott placed 2nd in the 100 meter run with a time of 13.22 and the 200 meter run with a time of 27.59 to bring in more points for the team.

Amy Campbell placed 1st in the discus throw with a distance of 105 feet. She threw almost 15 feet further than the 2nd place competitor.

“Amy has been inching her way up all season and she had a big throw when it counted,” Jones said.

A. Campbell placed 3rd in the long jump with a distance of 13.06.5 and 5th in shot put hitting 29.05.

Jones was pleased the girls relay team for the 4X400 meter race won 1st. That team consisted of Madison Campbell, Avery Scott, T’lyssa Solaas and T. Scott coming in at 4:23.63.

The relay team for the 4X800 meter race placed 1st. The team had M. Campbell, A. Scott, Rainey Wilson and Solaas with a time of 10:58.36. The team placed 2nd in the 1600 sprint medley.

A. Scott placed 2nd in the 400 meter race with a time of 1:02.46.

Solaas came in 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles at 18.88.

Wilson came in 5th in the 800 meter with a time of 2:44.57 and 6th in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:30.03.

M. Campbell came in 4th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:41.12.

On the boys Jones had some good results.

“One of the highlights for regionals for us was Taylor Kennedy,” Jones said. “He would probably admit that he has struggled with his times and some of his conditioning this year, but he took care of business when it counted. He is a kid works so hard and it is good to see those results.”

Kennedy came in 3rd in the 3200 meter race with a time of 11:59.36 and 4th in 1600 meter run with a time of 5:29.05.

Joseph Borah came in 2nd in the shot put with a distance of 39-10.00

Devon Grosstick placed 5th in the long jump with a distance of 17-11.00 and 7th in the triple jump with a distance of 37-00.

Ura Schmidt came in 6th for the shot put with a distance of 34-10.50.

“Overall, I think our kids did really well,” Jones said. “I think these kids are ready to roll, but they definitely have their work cut out for them.”

State track and field will be held in Casper over the weekend.
