Saratoga sends all grapplers

All panther wrestlers qualify for State Championship

Saratoga High School wrestling head coach Jared Mason was happy with the showing his Panther grapplers.

"The Saratoga Panthers wrestling team really stepped up at the WHSAA (Wyoming High School Activities Association) 2A Southeast Quadrant Qualifier tournament in Glenrock on Saturday, February 20," Mason said. "Each wrestler contributed to the overall success of the team that placed 2nd. It's exciting that all of the Panther wrestlers qualified for the State Tournament which will be held at the Casper Events Center this Thursday, February 25."

In the 106 weight class Josiah Stockwell placed 2nd and scored 18 team points and, in the same weight, Cale Mowry placed 4th to go to State.

Mason was excited by freshman Stockwell.

"Freshman Josiah Stockwell at 106 lost by decision in the championship match, but he wrestled tough against Grant Logsdon of Lingle-Fort Laramie/Southeast who has been ranked number one in the state all year at that weight," Mason said.

In the weight class of 113 another freshman pleased his coach with his showing at the quadrant. He came in 2nd and added 14 points to the team score.

"At 113, Freshman Tuker Carricato had a great tournament," Mason said. "In his semi-final match he revenged prior losses of this season to the number two state ranked Wyatt Sylvester of Lingle-Fort Laramie/Southeast with a pin in the third period.  He also wrestled extremely well against the number one state ranked, returning State Champion, and Senior, Brock Blevins of Lingle-Fort Laramie Southeast before getting pinned in the championship match."

Jerry Everett weighing in at 126 placed 2nd at the quad. He brought in 16 points for the team.

Wrestling at 138, Slayd Daley took it all. He won this weight class and brought in 24 points for the team. His coach was elated.

"Sophomore Slayd Daley had an outstanding tournament, winning all three of his matches by pin at 138," Mason said.  "He was the only Panther wrestler to claim an Individual Championship and earn All-conference honors for his efforts."

Former state champion Justin Shotwell came in 2nd in the 145 weight glass. He contributed 14 points to the team.

Two wrestlers weighing in at 152 are going to state. Brayden Gray placed 2nd and brought 14 points for the team score. Seven Patrick placed 3rd.

Weighing in at 160, Douglass Campbell came in 3rd and contributed seven points to the team's score.

Kaden Hedley was another 3rd place winner weighing in at 182. He scored seven points for the team.

Kellen Reeder placed 2nd in the weight class of 195. He brought in 10 points for the team.

In the weight class of 220 Quade Jordan placed 2nd. He brought 16 points to the team's score. His coach was happy with the performance of the Panther wrestler.

"Quade Jordan, another freshman standout for the Panthers, revenged his loss to number 5 State Ranked Jessy Valentine of Lingle-Fort Laramie/Southeast by pinning him in the second period of his semi-final match at 220," Mason said. "In the championship match, Quade wrestled with a lot of heart, grit, and determination even though he lost a 3-8 decision to number one state ranked Jasper Caldera of Niobrara County."

Two wrestlers are going to state who weigh in the 285 weight class. Ben Wagy came in 2nd bringing with him 14 team points. Logan Robinson placed 3rd.

The Panthers totaled 154 points to come in 2nd at the quadrant.

Mason has every reason to be pleased with his Panther wrestlers and hopes to continue their winning ways at State.

The WHSAA State Wrestling Championships will be held February 25-27 in Casper at the Ford Wyoming Center.
