Draft NRMP plan released

Public comment open until March 17

The Board Carbon County Commissioners, along with a steering committee, has completed a draft Natural Resource Management Plan (NRMP).

The County developed this Plan as a tool which allows a local government to have a substantive impact on federal decisions, plans, policies, and programs.

Federal agencies consideration of a local natural resource management plan, or resource plan, can play a key role in the success of a local government engaging as a cooperative agency or with consistency review under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), coordination under the Federal Lands Policy and Management Act (FLPMA), or National Forest Management Act (NFMA) as well as assisting in the Governor’s consistency review.

The Draft Carbon County NRMP was released for public comment on Tuesday February 16, 2021. The document is located on the Carbon County website at https://www.carbonwy.com/ for review and download. Hard copies of the document will also be available for viewing at the Carbon County Clerk’s Office and at the conservation district offices in Baggs, Medicine Bow, and Saratoga. The public comment period will be open for 30-days from Tuesday February 16 through Wednesday March 17. Written public comments are requested to ensure a full understanding of your thoughts and concerns. Written comments will by fully considered before finalizing the NRMP and can be submitted via email to [email protected] or submitted to the Carbon County Clerks Office or the conservation district offices in Baggs, Medicine Bow, or Saratoga.

To acquire community input and provide information about the purpose and intent of the NRMP, public meetings will be held virtually through Zoom on March 3 and 4, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. with in-person viewing locations in Rawlins at the Jeffrey Center and at the conservation district offices in Baggs, Medicine Bow, and Saratoga.
