Barn raising in Riverside

New resident discusses “barndominium” with town council

The Riverside Town Council meeting of February 11, 2021 discussion centered around new resident Peggy Huntley’s questions about building a “barndominium”.

According to Huntley, a barndominium is a pole building that is finished inside. She said that there are examples on YouTube if anyone is interested in seeing what they look like. Huntley also promised the council that it would not look like an actual barn once it is complete.

Previous to the meeting, Huntley had been provided a packet with zoning restrictions and permit applications which the town council advised her had the information that she needs regarding set backs.

Huntley had also requested that the town finish Copper Street. Mayor Leroy Stephenson advised her that state statue does not allow the town to finish the street. It is up to the developer to finish the street out.

Dean Webb, newest member of the Riverside Town Council, further relayed that it would be in her best interest to bring the portion of Copper Street Huntley would be using to access her property, up to street specs in case there would be any further improvements in years to come.

Huntley further inquired about building rental cabins. Stephenson said that since the property is zoned restricted residential, rental cabins are not permitted. He went on to say that since Huntley owns several lots, she can build another residence but they would need to be on separate water and sewer lines.

There was also a letter received by the council requesting that a street light be installed on the corner of Carbon Street and HWY 70. After some discussion, the Riverside Town Council decided to table the topic until the next meeting to give them time to visit the site.

Discussion of the town maps was also tabled until next month.

The next meeting of the Riverside Town Council will be on March 11, 2021 at 6 p.m. at the Riverside Town Hall.
