Colorado Grand to return to Encampment
The Encampment Town Council meeting on February 11, 2021 began with public guest John Farr who requested permission to use the park and the area behind the Grand Encampment Museum for the Colorado Grand, which comes through the area every three years. This year the group will be in Encampment on September 19. According to Farr, an $8,000 scholarship is provided along with some funding for the highway department. Farr also said that any COVID-19 restrictions that are in place at that time will be followed. The council approved the request.
Council member Shannon Fagan-Craig also made a few requests during the meeting. First, she spoke on behalf of the Mother Mountain Anglers. The group asked permission from the town to be able to write a grant that would enable them to provide an aerial map of the disc golf course. The map would show the course and length of baskets and would be waterproof and scratch proof. The Mother Mountain Anglers would provide all the work and funding for the project. The council approved the map to be placed near tee box 1.
Fagan also requested that the town council approve banners for the class of 2021 to be placed throughout town. Fagan stated, “with all of COVID this past year our seniors are lacking a bit of recognition. I thought it would be nice if we could do individual banners through out the school zone and downtown area.”
The council agreed that students deserve to have more recognition for what has been a difficult time and approved the banners along with hardware for up to $2,000. This will include additional hardware to be purchased in case future class sizes are larger than the current 13 graduating students.
The next regular meeting of the Encampment Town Council will take place March 11, 2021 at 7 p.m. at the Encampment Town Hall.
