Search and rescue members locate three lost snowmobilers on January 31
Carbon County Search and Rescue safely recovered three lost snowmobilers in the Sierra Madre mountain range according to a recent press release from the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office.
In the early morning hours of January 31, Deputy Casey Lehr was contacted to conduct a search and rescue operation off of Wyoming Highway 70 for Lonnie Kelly, Jason Davis and Ty Quickenden. Initially receiving the call at 5 a.m., Lehr and members of search and rescue gathered at the Highway 70 closure gate at 7 a.m. before unloading their snowmobiles, donning equipment and heading to the GPS coordinates provided.
Shortly thereafter, Homer Beach and Tom Hunt arrived and staged at the scene in case they were needed.
At approximately 8:08 a.m., search and rescue members informed dispatch that they had arrived in the general area of the lost snowmobilers and would send five members to Lost Creek to attempt to locate them. At 8:26 a.m., contact was made with the three snowmobilers and, at 8:51 a.m., dispatch was informed that the lost party was out and would be escorted to their vehicle near the Baggs side of Highway 70.
No injuries were reported and all search and rescue members returned to the command past around 11 a.m.
The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office was aided in search and rescue efforts by Cory Nuhn, Jason Burke, Bub Barkhurst, Brodie Barkhurst, Kevin Shue, Marcos Zaragoza, Jack Leiseth, Talon Hamann, Anthony Rakness and Bruce Romas.
