Saratoga pounces on Lady Vikings

Lady Panthers take out Guernsey-Sunrise 79-22

While the Lady Panthers were unable to play two conference games the weekend before against the Cokeville Lady Panthers and the Farson-Eden Lady Pronghorns, they took the opportunity on their return to the court to snag a win.

Though they didn’t have their full roster on Friday, the Saratoga Lady Panthers still came out swinging against the Guernsey-Sunrise Lady Vikings with a substantial lead and broke school records in the process.

“Guernsey was a good game for us to come off of quarantine with. We still did not have our full team at the time of the game and it was good to learn how to play with different lineups,” said Heather Bartlett, head coach of the Lady Panthers. “The girls definitely came back ready to play and hungry for a win.”

According to Bartlett, the team came out hard against the Lady Vikings and showed a strong defense while on the hardwood. Though it took the first eight minutes of the game to shake the rust off, the next three quarters saw Saratoga keep their lead going until the very end.

“It was a great team effort,” Bartlett said.

Whitney Bennett, due to the team effort, achieved a triple-double against Guernsey-Sunrise as she scored 41 points, had 16 steals and 11 rebounds. Additionally, the 41 points scored against the Lady Vikings broke the Saratoga High School record for points scored in a single game and the 16 steals broke the record for most steals in a single game.

“Whitney had a great game, but her amount of steals and layups she got came from the guards’ great defense allowing her to get steals off of bad passes,” said Bartlett. “I am very proud of our entire team after this game.”

Following Bennett was Olivia Everett with 14 points and Tasia Daley with 13 points. Sam Duke followed with 5 points and 5 steals, Sam Fiedor scored 4 points and had 5 rebounds and Heather Wallace scored 2 points and had 4 rebounds.

The final score was 79-22.

As they return to the hardwood, the Lady Panthers will have hosted the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Lady Rattlers (5-3, 1-1) on February 2.
