Encampment girls lose two

Lady Tigers fall to Saratoga and LSRV over the weekend

The Encampment Lady Tigers were still working on finding their footing as they headed into conference play this weekend. With one game at home and one on the road, the Lady Tigers went 0-2 as they fell to two conference foes.

On Friday, Encampment hosted their conference and Valley rivals the Saratoga Lady Panthers. The following day, the Lady Tigers visited the neighboring valley as they were hosted by the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Lady Rattlers.

Heading into the Friday matchup, both the Lady Tigers and Saratoga had gone 3-3 for the season with this being the first conference game for both. While Encampment worked to sink their claws into the Lady Panthers, Saratoga would eventually take a win in Tiger Nation.

"We had an opportunity to win the game but when you miss 10 lay-ups and enough free throws to make up the difference you usually come out on the wrong side of the score," said Clint Bromley, head coach of the Lady Tigers. "I thought this was one of Allison's (Bromley) best games of the season and Cora Schroeder's best rebounding effort. From here on out we need more of the seniors to step up and contribute in a positive way."

Senior Lizzi James led the team against the Lady Panthers as she scored 13 points. A. Bromley followed with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Schroeder, meanwhile, scored 7 points and had 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.

Despite the effort put forth by Encampment, the final score was 35-41.

Lady Rattlers

After being dealt a loss at home, Encampment headed to the Viper Pit where they were hosted by the Lady Rattlers. Still stinging from their loss from the day before, the Lady Tigers would feel the bite of LSRV as they were dealt their second conference loss.

"It was almost like a repeat of the Saratoga game from start to finish and we just couldn't get over the hump to get the win," C. Bromley said. "We had way too many turnovers and missed opportunities. Give LSRV the credit, they capitalized on our mistakes and got the victory."

Schroeder led the Lady Tigers this time with 10 points and 5 assists and was followed by James with 9 points and 11 rebounds.

The final score was 34-40.

Following their duo of losses, the Encampment Lady Tigers are 3-5 for the season and 0-2 for conference play. The Lady Tigers will return to conference play this weekend as they host the Cokeville Lady Panthers (5-3, 0-0) at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and the Farson-Eden Lady Pronghorns (3-5, 1-0) at noon on Saturday.
