Saratoga Care Center medical director earns board certification

Dr. Emma M. Bjore, medical director for the Saratoga Care Center, has been approved for accreditation as Certified Medical Director (CMD) by the American Board of Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine (ABPLM). The CMD credential recognizes the dual clinical and managerial roles of the medical director.

Certification requires demonstration of competence in clinical medicine and medical management in post-acute and long-term care, and incorporates mechanisms such as fellowship programs, board certifications, and continuing medical education in ABPLM-approved courses in medical direction.

Bjore is currently on staff as a geriatrician with the Ivinson Medical Group in Laramie in addition to serving as medical director for both the Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) at the University of Wyoming and at the Saratoga Care Center. She also sees patients at the Platte Valley Clinic one Friday a month.

Bjore earned her Bachelor of Arts Cum Laude in biology from Concordia College and her M.D. from the University of North Dakota. She completed the Rose Family Medicine Residency and a two-year geriatric fellowship at the University of Colorado, Denver. She is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine as well as the ABPLM.

Since joining the Care Center staff in 2018, Bjore said she has witnessed exceptional, compassionate and skilled care offered in both the clinic and the nursing home.

"What has been missing is a fully-integrated hospital to partner with the nursing home and clinic," she said. "As a geriatrician, I strongly support the efforts to bring the North Platte Valley Medical Center to Saratoga. When it's complete it will integrate hospital services, the clinic, a rehab unit, and a much-needed long-term care wing. It will take our medical services in Saratoga to the next level."
