HEM hosted by Pronghorns on October 30 for playoffs
Sometimes a loss gets a team motivated for a game coming up. That is what is hoped will happen with the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Miners when it faces the Farson-Eden Pronghorns this coming Friday.
On Saturday, the Miners faced the Kaycee Buckaroos in Kaycee. It was a tough game for the Miners because, although the team did some things well, they couldn’t get on the scoreboard.
In the 1st quarter, Kaycee got 20 points and the 2nd quarter had the Buckaroos add 26 more to their score. They went into the half 46-0.
The clock was running as the 3rd quarter had the Miners keep the Buckaroos to 13 points and the last quarter, Kaycee scored 7 points.
Although the Miners did not score, Head Coach Zach Scott, was upbeat about how HEM did.
“The kids have been resilient in a very unpredictable season,” Scott said. “We have improved individually and as a team throughout the season.”
Scott was happy with senior Ura Schmidt’s play on the field.
“Ura Schmidt had a big game with nine catches,” Scott said.
Scott saw his younger players coming into their own, which heartened him as the game went on.
“Many of our younger players have been growing into good football players and leaders,” Scott said. “Tom Wagner, Howard Bame, Quinn Felton, Rayce Ward and Anthony Solaas have really stepped up as contributors and always have positive attitudes.”
Senior Devon Grosstick attempted 10 passes and completed five that got 45 yards. He also carried the ball 11 times for 52 yards. He had 96 total yards and three tackles.
Schmidt led the team with four tackles, although there were eight other players that had tackles too.
Quarterback Dylan Romero attempted 13 passes and completed eight for 48 yards.
Although the Miners did not have the sort of day they would have hoped for when it came to the score, Scott said the team is ready to play Farson-Eden, who are undefeated.
The playoff game is at 1 p.m. on October 30 at Farson.
