Lady Miners end regular season at top of the conference
The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Lady Miners had a well deserved week off before they start regionals. The Lady Miners are 16-2 overall and 8-0 in conference play.
“The girls know what they have to do to take care of business,” said Head Coach Jackie Jones. “The thing to love about these girls are that they are so humble about themselves.”
Many teams in their position might not be. Two years ago the core group of this team went to the State Championship finals.
They didn’t win, but the experience to play in Casper was something all the girls that came back were happy to have achieved.
Last year the team did fine, but did not repeat a trip the state finals.
In the beginning of the season, the team had a couple losses, but Jones likes to see this happen because the girls pull together afterwards and learn from their mistakes.
Madison Campbell has turned into an excellent setter, according to her coach, who knows how to distribute the ball evenly to the team’s talented players. Her sister, Amy Campbell, and Taylar Scott are forces to be reckoned with against everywhere on the court. The three players are all co-captains.
Rainey Wilson, the libero, has been the player that gets the job done, as her coach says.
The supporting players to this core are strong in their own ways, and Jones has an arsenal at her disposal.
“I’ve said it all season, these girls are a class act and exceptional human beings,” Jones said. “I couldn’t be prouder of them no matter how far we go this season.”
