Hanna group holds last meeting of 2020 as they prepare for winter season
The Hanna Agricultural Resource Team (HART) met at 5:30 p.m. on October 15 at the Hanna Market.
This will be last meeting for the group until spring. Chairman Perry Goodrich wanted to make sure budget and purchases needed for the winter were in sync.
“We have to leave money in for the 2020-2021 scholarship,” Goodrich said. “I hope we can get the kids involved the way we did when we first founded it. Last year was a little disappointing.”
There were few applications for the 2020-2021 scholarship.
Ellen Freeman, member of HART, said she would talk to the school, but said last year had been tough on students due to COVID. She hoped this year it would be different.
The garden beds are being readied for winter. Straw will be used to insulate the beds.
HART will participate at the Hanna Winter Bazaar. The group agreed to purchase a table for the purpose of having information available on the group for the community. It was agreed to put up a donation jar for the scholarship.
HART is looking at doing a bake sale to raise funds for the group, if it can be allowed.
The group agreed to purchase a motion activated solar light for the gate. Cement to be used to put in new posts was another purchase approved. Water seal for the pallets at the garden was also approved for purchase.
Solar panels to be used in the spring will be housed in a shed that was volunteered or a storage unit if the panels don’t fit in the shed. The group will allocate funds for a storage unit if needed. The panels are 8 feet by 15 feet.
Freeman said most of the garden beds are spoken for out of the 17 available. She said there might be two beds available next spring.
Although this was the last group meeting scheduled for 2020, HART members agreed they would stay in touch for the winter bazaar.
The group estimated that the group will probably meet sometime in April 2021.
