Tullis, McCarty Canyon, JO site destination for 26th Annual Community Fall Trek
For the 26th year, members and friends of the Little Snake River community will make a fall trek. This year the trek will be close to home, straddling the Continental Divide. It will be a time to enjoy the fall leaf colors and to learn more about the area's history. The treksters will leave Baggs at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, with stops for additional treksters in Dixon and Savery. They will travel to Brown's Hill where a stop will be made with information about the homesteaders and schools and on to the McCary Ranch for a coffee and rolls break and to learn about the history of the ranch. A stop will be made at Tullis. The group will travel on the new paved highway Carbon County 401, with a stop at the High Savery Dam and then on to the McCarty Road, Carbon County 503. Stops will be made in McCarty Canyon and at Five Buttes which is again on Browns Hill. Taking Carbon County Road 608 Wild Cow from Brown's Hill, they will make their final stop at the JO Ranch. From the JO Ranch the treksters will return to Baggs.
Treksters are asked to bring a lunch, water and a lawn chair. The trip from Baggs will include paved roads and gravel county roads. In case of inclement weather, the trip will be postponed until a later date. There is no cost for the trek. Reservations are not necessary, but it is helpful for planning purposes if those wishing to make the trek call 307-383-6861.
The Fall Treks are sponsored by the Little Snake River Valley Community Education Center and the Little Snake River Museum.
