Miners still on learning curve

HEM learning to play without seniors that took them to championship

The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School football team played Natrona County sophomores in a non-conference game this Saturday and got tested.

The Miners were able to put points up on the score board against the Mustangs, but not enough.

Natrona County Sophomores racked up 60 points to HEM's 19.

Zach Scott, Head Coach for HEM, knows his team is still learning to do without the seniors that helped get the team to the championships last year.

That is fine with him.

"We played Natrona County Sophomores and the kids played hard," Scott said. "We are working as a team to improve"

Scott had some players show him some good looks.

"Devon Grosstick and Ura Schmidt had a great game offensively and defensively," Scott said.

Scott realizes that effort is the key to building a successful season.

""I am proud of all the kids, their effort and how they never quit," Scott said. "Their attitude is amazing."

This makes the coach happy.

The Miners next scheduled game is at 5 p.m. on September 26 against Guernsey/Sunrise in Guernsey.
