Credit where it's due

To the Editor:

The staff of the Carbon County Museum have been following Mike Armstrong’s recent series of articles about the county’s museums and historical sites with great interest. It is wonderful that someone is taking the time to call attention to the hardworking people who founded these institutions and have kept them open to the public. I would, however, like to note a few inaccuracies in his recent article on Carbon (August 19), to ensure that the proper information is shared.

First, he misspelled the name of Palma Jack twice. Palma has given hundreds of hours not only to the Carbon Cemetery Association, but also to the Carbon County Museum, and she should be correctly credited for her work.

Second is the statement that Mr. Armstrong made regarding how the Carbon County Museum acquired the shoes made of George Parrott’s skin. The museum acquired the shoes from the Rawlins National Bank, who originally acquired them directly from Dr. John Osborne. Having checked the records myself, I’m unsure what donation Jeanette Fischer is referring to in the article.

Whenever Mr. Armstrong has questions about the Carbon County Museum, any of the approximately 30,000 objects in its collection, or the people who donated them, he’s more than welcome to visit the museum, give us a call, or even just drop us an email. We would be glad to assist.
