Saratoga cross country practice to begin this week
Summer may have just started but fall sports are on the horizon. Though schools throughout Wyoming are still figuring out their reopening plans for the 2020/2021 school year, practices for some of the fall sports are slated to begin.
According to Rex Hohnholt, head coach for Saratoga Cross Country, practices for long-distance runners will begin this week at the Saratoga Middle High School (SMHS) track. Hohnholt told the Saratoga Sun that practices will begin at 6 p.m. on July 2.
Any middle school or high school student who is interested in running cross country is encouraged to attend the first practice. Those who cannot attend but are still interested can contact Hohnholt by calling 307-321-5225.
The Saratoga Boys Cross Country team has had a successful run these past four years as they brought home the 2A State Championship in 2016, 2018 and 2019 and were runner-ups in 2017. Encampment, which does not have a cross country team of its own, has traditionally ran for Saratoga.
Encampment graduate Reid Schroeder was individual 2A State Champion in 2016 as a freshman, Encampment graduate Jarom Herring was a two-time individual 2A State Champion in 2017 and 2018 and Saratoga freshman Grant Bartlett was individual 2A State Champion in 2019.
