Reminder to elected officials

Dear Editor,

I would like to remind the elected officials of our town that it is their duty and responsibility to answer to the constituency. Questions from other council members are not an inconvenience to be overcome; they are means to discovering and understanding the truth. The public is not an inconvenience to be overcome; they are the citizens of this town to whom you answer. The financial activity of the town is not a mere inconvenience to deal with; it is a priority for you to manage.

You chose to sit behind that bench. You chose the responsibility that comes with it. You chose to put your time into caring for the town and its business. If that doesn’t seem to matter, remember that you publicly stated that you would abide by the law. Please do the job for which you volunteered your time, or step down.

Wyoming Constitution Art. 6, § 20. 

Senators and representatives and all judicial, state and county officers shall, before entering on the duties of their respective offices, take and subscribe the following oath or affirmation:  “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support, obey and defend the constitution of the United States, and the constitution of the state of Wyoming;  that I have not knowingly violated any law related to my election or appointment, or caused it to be done by others;  and that I will discharge the duties of my office with fidelity.”
