Maintain and stay firm

Encampment Town Council waits for more guidelines from governor

The Encampment Town Council meeting was held on May 14, 2020.

It was decided that, since the COVID-19 pandemic has made everything so uncertain, the dredging project would be postponed. Jon Nelson of North Fork Engineering was present to give the council a few updates and provide them with a few options for screening equipment to filter out the trash going through the lagoons.

The rest of the meeting went by with extreme expediency with the council approving most agenda items including software upgrades for the water plant, Doggett Greenhouse’ lease, Gonzales Brothers Tree Trimming, liquor licenses for Chez Booze and D’s Bar and Grill, police vehicle repairs and an MOU for prisoner costs.

For other agenda items, Mayor Greg Salisbury made it clear that the Town of Encampment is following the Governor’s guidelines and are diligently watching for them to change. In the meantime, the planned events for June 13 may have to be rescheduled.

There was discussion about whether or not the Opera House could be opened. Since it would be difficult to enforce social distancing in large group gatherings Salisbury said, “We have to try to be as safe as possible. Unless things really change, I think we should maintain what we have been doing and stay firm”.

A term on the Carbon County Vistor’s Council is expiring June 30. John Farr is the current representative for Encampment and the council felt he is doing a great job but decided to place an advertisement for the position. If no one else is interested, Farr will continue on the Visitor’s Council.

There are also three terms on the Planning Commission that will soon expire, the council will also advertise with details for anyone interested in the position.

Lastly, an executive session was called to review applications for new personnel. There was no further discussion when the council returned and the meeting was adjourned.

The next Encampment Town Council meeting will be at 7 p.m. on June 11, 2020 at the Encampent Town Hall.
