Louise Hope 'Buckendorf' Brooks

Louise Hope 'Buckendorf' Brooks was born on August 2, 1924 in Buckeye, Colorado to George and Billie (Griffen) Buckendorf. Louise passed March 2, 2020 at her home in Elk Mountain, Wyoming.

Hope attended school in Fort Collins, Colorado and Laramie, Wyoming. She participated in the girls league baseball in Fort Collins in 1941. She also did gymnastics and volleyball in Laramie.

Hope belonged to the Rebekha Lodge No.11 in Elk Mountain for over 55 years. She held all offices, was Vice President, a representative in Grand Lodge and Vice President in District Lodge. She did enjoy lodge.

She was one of the first women to join the Hanna VFW Aux., she also helped start the VFW Aux. in Winnett, Montana.

Louise married her handsome man from Elk Mountain. They were married June 22, 1943 in the Episcopal Church in Laramie and moved to Elk Mountain. David joined the Navy in May 1944.

Hope was a stay at home mom. She loved cooking for her family.

Hope made quilts for the family. She loved to sit and read in the evening. She also helped Dave in the woods and building their home in Elk Mountain.

She is survived by Karolyn (Brooks) Stringer, Linda (Brooks) Schisel, David and Shelby Brooks, Donald and Theresa Brooks. Grandsons Joseph and James Jacobsen (raised as sons). Sisters Georgia Brawley, Joyce and Ronnie Garretson. Brothers Jim, Gene and Bob Buckendorf. 11 great great grandchildren, 12 great-great-great grandchildren.

Celebration fo life is planned for July 25, 2020, memorial service will be held at 11 a.m at the Old Carbon Cemetery. Lunch will be served at the Elk Mountain Park following the memorial.
