Togie talk jock places 3rd and 5th, team takes 3rd for 1A/2A Sweepstakes
Over the weekend, the Saratoga Speech and Debate team participated in their final regular meet of the season as they traveled to Worland for the Worlando Beach Tournament. While there, the talk jocks placed one speaker in two categories.
Kaitlyn Campbell, who joined the debate team this season, competed in Congressional Debate for the first time.
“Despite earning rankings in two of the three sessions, she did not earn enough points to advance to the Super Congress round,” said Sheryl Hunter, head coach.
Congressional Debate is a mock-style of the national Congress in which participants debate for or against pieces of legislation as well as vote on them.
Senior Kaylyn Hunter did well in Worland, advancing to the finals in both Poetry and Programmed Oral Interpretation (POI). K. Hunter placed 5th in Poetry and 3rd in POI.
“This was another larger meet with 20 competing schools and over 400 entries,” S. Hunter said. “The team earned 3rd place in the team sweepstakes for 1A/2A schools.”
Whilte at the Worlando Beach Tournament, the Saratoga Speech and Debate team were informed that, while they did not have individual success at the Riverton Tournament the week before, they had earned enough points to be the 3rd place 1A/2A Sweepstakes winner.
This weekend, the speech and debate team heads to Green River as they compete in the State Speech and Debate Tournament.
