WGFD to hold public meeting

Meeting to provide updates on Platte Valley Mule Deer Initiative

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) will be holding a public meeting at the Platte Valley Community Center (PVCC) on March 12 to discuss the Platte Valley Mule Deer Initiative.

The Platte Valley Mule Deer Initiative was implemented by the WGFD in July 2011 to increase public involvement in the management direction of the Platte Valley mule deer herd. From August 2011 to February 2012, the WGFD conducted workshops in Saratoga, Rawlins, Laramie and Cheyenne to develop a plan to guide mule deer management in the Platte Valley.

The management issues identified during this process include population management, habitat, predator management, access and outreach as well as outreach, partnerships and response. The updates for the March 12 public meeting will include herd population, migration corridors and data from GPS-collared mule deer.

Along with updates on the Platte Valley Mule Deer Initiative, meeting participants will also be providing updates on current and proposed habitat projects, the United States Forest Service’s Landscape Vegetation Analysis (LaVA) project and chronic wasting disease.

The public meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at 210 W. Elm Street in Saratoga.
