Medicine Bow candidate departs after only days in town
The wind and winter weather took another casualty last week when the new law enforcement candidate for Medicine Bow, David Ridge, decided that he was not prepared to live in Carbon County.
Ridge had not been sworn in or moved into the house provided by the town when he came to the conclusion that the small town in northern Carbon County was not a place he could live.
The law enforcement candidate came from California and was not prepared for the weather.
Mayor Sharon Biamon said she did try and warn him that winter could be hard. Ridge moved to Carbon County when the wind and weather conditions were shutting down the roads on several occasions.
After a couple days in the town, he gave his notice.
Medicine Bow will not have to wait long for law enforcement to come.
The town council met on February 9 and went to into executive session to start the process of finding candidates that would be the right fit for the town. They are hopeful that a candidate will be found by April 1.
Biamon is sorry that it did not work out for Ridge, but acknowledged that winter in Medicine Bow can make people think twice settling in the small community.
“I love it here,” Biamon said. “But it takes a special breed to live in Carbon County in the winter.”
Biamon knows from the group of candidates that have applied already, that there are law enforcement officers out there that will work out for the town of Medicine Bow. It just will take a little more time to find them.
