Weather wrecks wrestling week

CCSD2 mat-men grapple with old man winter

There is always uncertainty when events are scheduled in the winter time in Wyoming. This past week both the wrestling teams of Saratoga High School Panthers and the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Miners were forced to cancel any meets this week.

On January 28 the two teams were to meet for an invite at the Saratoga High School along with Rawlins and North Park, Colorado. Old Man Winter had other ideas. Snow and wind had the roads shut down in the early morning and the meet was canceled.

Ron Thon was another event to take place in Riverton on January 31 to February 1, but the weather made it treacherous to go anywhere at the end of the week. The tournament is named after Ronald Francis Thon who died August 12, 1999. Thon was a counselor and head wrestling coach for Riverton. In 1997, Thon was awarded by the Wyoming Coach Association for his services. This tournament brings many Wyoming schools together. This year 45 teams were invited, although not all could attend.

Both the Saratoga Panthers and HEM Miners will wrestle on February 8 in Rawlins.
