Saratoga places 15th at Don Runner, younger wrestlers get mat time
The Saratoga High School wrestling team went to Pavillion this past weekend to attend the Don Runner Invite.
22 teams came together and the Panthers sent seven wrestlers to compete. The team had a few wrestlers place and came out number 15 as a team.
“It was nice to have a few guys place and get more valuable mat time for the younger wrestlers on the team,” Jared Mason, head wrestling coach, said.
Cale Mowry, who wrestled at 106 pounds, was a wrestler who may not have gotten points but got the mat time.
Jerry Everett wrestling at 113 did place as 6th and scored 13 team points.
Justin Shotwell wrestled at 120 and placed 5th getting 17 team points.
Slayd Daley also wrestled at 120 and placed 6th.
Although wrestlers Jake Hampton, at 126, Ben Wagy, at 182, and Kaden Hedley, at 195, did not score points they got the mat experience their coach desired.
“We learned that we still have lots to improve on and will continue to work hard with improvement as the goal going forward,” Mason said.
The next scheduled meet is the Lingle Dogger Invite on January 25.
