Encampment girls basketball see good start against Meeteetse, defeats St. Stephens by two points
While it is still the preseason, the Encampment Lady Tigers are off to a good start as they were able to put three wins under their belts during the Carbon County Classic. While they were able to see wins against the Meeteetse Lady Longhorns, the Ft. Washakie Lady Chiefs and the St. Stephens Lady Eagles, Encampment would lose to the Hayden Lady Tigers.
"This was a good learning week for us," said Clint Bromley, head coach of the Lady Tigers. "With five freshman on our roster, we need court time and that was what the weekend was about. Coming out with three wins was a bonus for us."

Lady Longhorns
In the first game of the weekend, the Lady Tigers came charging out of the gate against Meeteetse as they ended the first quarter with a lead of 15-4. Encampment was able to capitalize on that momentum as they maintained a consistent lead against the Lady Longhorns, only allowing Meeteetse to score a total of 6 points in the entire first half.
During the second half, the Lady Longhorns were able to push past the defense of Encampment and throw some points on the board. It would seem, however, that the lead was too great for Meeteetse to overcome as the Lady Tigers led 40-11 in the 3rd quarter. In the final quarter, the Lady Longhorns would get another 10 points on the board while Encampment scored another 6 points and ending the game 46-21.
Lizzi James was the lead scorer against Meeteetse with a total of 23 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists. Grace Tieszen followed with 5 points and 11 rebounds and Maren Baker scored 5 points.
"I thought we came out and played our best basketball in our first game with Meeteetse," Bromley said. "I was afraid that we would be tight coming out, but the girls started with a 15 point quarter and that set the tone for the whole weekend."

Lady Chiefs
Following the victory against the Lady Longhorns, Encampment was able go into the second game on Friday with their heads held high as they faced Ft. Washakie. That confidence showed as the Lady Tigers were able to secure a win against the Lady Chiefs with a score of 31-17.
James scored 11 points against Ft. Washakie and had 12 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Freshman Cora Schroeder scored 6 points and had 8 rebounds, Baker scored 6 points and had 3 steals and Tieszen scored 4 points and had 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals.

Lady Tigers
One of the toughest games for the Encampment girls was against the Lady Tigers of Hayden, Colo. on Saturday. Despite the two wins the day before, the hosting Lady Tigers appeared unable to get started against Hayden as the first quarter ended with a score of 3-11. Encampment, however, was able to get points on the board as the game continued and went into half-time with a score of 13-23.
The visiting Lady Tigers, however, would maintain their lead throughout the second half with a score of 20-41 in the 3rd quarter and end the game with a score of 28-48.
Baker scored 8 points against Hayden and had 2 rebounds. James scored 5 points and had 7 rebounds and freshman Peyton Munroe would score 5 points and have 3 rebounds.

Lady Eagles
The final game for the Lady Tigers was also one of their most hard fought victories. As the 1st quarter ended, Encampment trailed the Lady Eagles by a score of 4-14. In the 2nd quarter, however, the Lady Tigers would dig their claws into the hardwood to come back with a score of 21-23 at the end of the first half.
Both the 3rd and 4th quarter saw the Lady Tigers and St. Stephens fight for control of the court. The 3rd quarter ended with Encampment leading by a single point. The final quarter was much of the same as the two teams went basket-for-basket. With only a few seconds left, the Lady Tigers were tied with St. Stephens with a score of 42-42. Munroe, however, would get fouled and find herself at the free throw line and successfully put Encampment ahead by 2 points as the buzzer sounded.
Munroe scored 16 points against the Lady Eagles and had 8 rebounds. James followed with 16 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.
The Lady Tigers are 3-1 following the Carbon County Classic. Their next outing will be at the Dogger Basketball Classic Tournament in Lingle-Ft. Laramie on Dec. 20.
