John was born in Saratoga, Wyoming on April 20, 1926 to parents Acy and Ruth Wiant.
He served in World War II as a radar operator. After being discharged, John married his hometown sweetheart Margaret Honey Stockwell, and moved to California, where they lived for 40 years, raised a family and built several small businesses.
