Veterans' Day events and activities

In observance of Veterans Day, schools and organizations will be holding events throughout eastern Carbon County on different days. The Saratoga Sun reached out to as many organizations as it could as well as the local schools to compile the following information:

American Legion Post No. 54

The Saratoga American Legion Auxiliary will be holding a Veterans Day dinner on Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Post, located at 403 E. Bridge Ave. A social hour with a cash bar will begin the evening from 5 to 6 p.m. Toward the end of the social hour, the flag will be posted followed by the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance.

The dinner will begin at 6 p.m with Post Commander Don Ainsworth as Master of Ceremonies and a prayer from the American Legion Auxiliary. Dinner will last until 8 p.m. and will feature roast beef, baked potatoes, vegetables and desert. Following the dinner, the Legion will hold a drawing for the American Legion 2nd Amendment Glock 21, a .45 caliber pistol that is the 3rd of 10 that were made for the state of Wyoming.

Everyone is invited to come pay respect to veterans and join the dinner. Cost for the dinner is $15 for individuals and $25 per couple.

Saratoga Middle/High School

Saratoga Elementary School

The Saratoga Elementary School will be hearing from Ron Hoopes at 9 a.m. on Nov. 11 and will be making cards for veterans afterwards.

Encampment K-12 School

The Encampment K-12 School will be holding an assembly at 2 p.m. on Nov. 11 that will be emceed by Dalton Peterson and Reid Schroeder. The assembly will feature patriotic songs by the high school choir, readings by middle school students from their Patriot’s Pen essays and introduction and honoring of local veterans.

Encampment K-12 School stresses that the assembly is open to the public and encourages public attendance in observing Veterans’ Day.

North County schools

Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) high school will be serving a Veterans’ Day breakfast from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. on Nov. 15. The breakfast will include students from the Hanna Elementary School, Medicine Bow Elementary School and Elk Mountain Elementary School and will be sponsored by the National Honor Society.

HEM Principal Steve Priest encourages those with questions about the breakfast to call the HEM high school at 307-325-6545.

Medicine Bow American Legion Auxiliary 

Members of the American Legion Auxiliary will be going around the town of Medicine Bow on Veterans’ Day to deliver cookies to Medicine Bow veterans.
