HEM dispatches Viking in final regular season game
The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School football team finished up the regular season undefeated after beating Guernsey-Sunrise 68-12.
The Miners went 8-0 overall and 7-0 in conference play. They are ranked number two in state in six-man after Little Snake River.
“We played very well as a team,” Head HEM Football Coach Zach Scott said. “We showed up and executed on all parts of the game.”
Shane McGraw completed five out of six passes for 134 yards with Conor McGraw and Brendon Reeves each scoring a touchdown.
Conor scored four touchdowns and Shane scored two. Devon Grosstick also had two touchdowns for the Miners and Ura Schmidt scored one.
Conor had an excellent day defensively having 11 solo tackles and a sack that resulted in a nine yard loss for the Vikings. Shane had six solo tackles and Grosstick had five solo tackles.
In rushing, Conor led the Miners with 166 yards and Shane had 54 yards. Reeves had 67 yards receiving and Grosstick got 48. The Miners offensive marches down the field were too much for the Viking to contain.
The starters had the game well in hand by the first half and Scott decided to use his less experienced players to give them more time on the field.
“Our young players saw extended playing time and really stepped up on the field,” Scott said. “It was a great game in preparation for the playoffs.”
Scott knows being undefeated during the season doesn’t guarantee a championship. He is getting the team geared up for the next game for the playoffs.
“We are now focused solely on Meeteetse, our first round opponent,” Scott said.
Meeteetse is 3-4 overall and will come to Hanna in the matchup on Friday.
Scott acknowledges he has had help in getting the Miners to this point.
“”I would like to thank my assistants Cliff Jones and Mike McGraw for all their time and dedication to our team,” Scott said.
The playoff game against Meeteetse will be at 2 p.m. on Nov. 1 will be at home.
