Saratoga High School senior presented award for excellent sportsmanship
Staff Report
The Aiming for Excellence Award is given to one youth a year who is nominated by their peers in the 4-H Shooting Sports Project. It was created by one of Platte Valley's shooting sports leaders, Louis Braun, for youth to be able to recognize one among them for having a great attitude, being kind to others, and motivated to help; a person who exhibits excellent sportsmanship and all around good character.
This year's winner is Menphis Smith. Menphis is a senior at Saratoga High School and has participated in the Platte Valley Shooting Sports 4-H Club for nine years where he does shotgun, muzzleloading, .22 rifle, and .22 pistol. He enjoys being able to shoot with other youth and sharing what he knows with younger members. "Not many kids get this opportunity, so it's really fun being able to shoot with other kids."
Here's what his peers had to say about Menphis: " He is always competitive with good sportsmanship and willing to help others." "He is nice and always comes to practice with a good attitude." "He helps kids when they're struggling and especially when they are first-timers."
