Miners bury Devils

HEM defeats Hulett by nearly 50 points at Midwest

“It was a good day,” Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School head coach Zach Scott said, talking about the Miners’ victory over the Hulett Devils on Saturday at the neutral field of Midwest. “We played very well.”

HEM beat Hulett 79-31.

Conor McGraw cumulated 30 points for the day, which included three rushing touchdowns .

“Conor ran the ball well and had a superb defensive game,” Scott said.

Although Conor had a great day, there were five other players that scored on Saturday.

His brother, Shane McGraw, had 13 points against the Devils, but where Scott was heartened was Shane’s passing.

“Shane threw the ball incredibly well hitting six or seven targets,” Scott said.

Shane had two fumble recoveries.

The coach said senior David Cruz, who scored six points, was coming into his own as a defensive player.

“David had a great game defensively this week,” Scott said referring to his player’s tackles and sack.

Sophomore Jase Smith was also praised by Scott.

“Jase had an amazing game on all sides of the ball,” Scott said.

Smith had two touchdowns, scoring 12 points. He caught the ball for 82 yards and on the defense he had a sack.

Scott said the team is playing balanced football.

“Our kids continue to stay focused, and improve each game,” Scott concluded.

The Miners are 3-0 with two conference wins.

The next scheduled game is a home conference match at 2 p.m. on Saturday against Lingle-Ft. Laramie.
