Newly appointed mayor Sharon Biamon ready for challenge
The town of Medicine Bow picked a new mayor at a special town council meeting on Sept. 12, after Kevin Colman resigned at the Medicine Bow Town Council on Sept. 9.
Sharon Biamon was plucked from the town council to serve until elections in Nov. 2020.
She will be the first female mayor in the town's history.
Biamon was born in southwest Texas and moved to Wyoming with her family when she was 14. She said the love affair with Wyoming started then.
"I came to Medicine Bow with my first husband 24 years ago," Biamon said. "I love it here and, when we got divorced, he left and I stayed."
She has had several terms as a council member for the town and, in 2013, she became director of the Medicine Bow Museum.
Biamon said she has been involved with the council as impact funding has come to the town through the various wind projects that have started this year. She said understanding what is entailed for the town to get the funds makes her appreciate how important it is to get projects right as they get started.
"I am only going to be in until the next election and then, hopefully, I will get reelected and my goals during this time is I want the town to continue to go forward with all that is happening," Biamon said. "I think Kevin did an excellent job and I want to follow in that direction."
She said fixing streets and getting law enforcement into the town are her major priorities.
Biamon said the history of Medicine Bow is another component that she hopes will get attention as projects go forward. The Fossil Museum House moving to the Medicine Bow Museum is another positive factor she sees happening in the town.
"I am going to try to do my darndest to do a good job," Biamon said. "We have a nice town here and we are trying to improve it the best way we can. It might take a few years, but I feel we are on the right track."
