Calling cooks and crafters

Local chamber extends invitation to participate in chili cookoff or sell wares at Steinley Cup

The Saratoga/Platte Valley Chamber of Commerce (S/PVCC) is calling all cooks and crafters to participate in the upcoming Steinley Cup.

The 24th Annual Steinley Cup Microbrew Festival, scheduled for Aug. 17, is just around the corner.

According to Stacy Crimmins, Chief Executive Officer of S/PVCC, the event is becoming more popular every year, while remaining a fun, family-type event. With live music, playground, skate park, chili competition and craft show, the event has expanded the day’s activities for the entire family.

Those who have a great chili recipe are encouraged to enter the chili competition for a chance to win in one of three categories; red chili, green chili and salsa. People’s Choice voting will begin when the gates open at 1 p.m. Attendees will pay once to get to taste all chili entered in the contest and can vote for their favorite. The top cook in each category will receive a Certificate of Recognition, a $50 chamber gift certificate and bragging rights.

Contestants in the chili competition are asked to bring one gallon of each entry in a crock pot, or similar container, to the park by noon. Containers must be picked up by 6 p.m. For an application to enter, and a full list of rules, visit the S/PVCC website at www.saratogachamber.info/steinley or call the chamber office at 307-326-8855 by Aug. 15.

Along with chili cooks, local and regional crafters are invited to sell their art and wares to attendees of the microbrew festival. While there is no charge for booth space, crafters must purchase entry into the event at $30 per person. Set up will begin at 10 a.m. and all vehicles must be off Veterans Island by noon. Interested crafters can call the chamber office for more information by Aug. 15.

The 24th Annual Steinley Cup Microbrew Festival will begin at 1 p.m. on Aug. 17 at Veterans Island.
