CCSD2 Board meets to acknowledge departing staff, approve new educator contracts and hear about missing plaque
At 4 p.m. on May 20 at the Elk Mountain Elementary School, the Carbon County District No. 2 (CCSD2) held their monthly board meeting.
The agenda was quickly approved.
CCSD2 Superintendent Dr. James Copeland recognized Kathy Thompson, the head librarian for all the northern county schools for her service to CCSD2 for the past ten years.
“I have absolutely loved working for the district and really love all the staff and students that have made the job enjoyable,” Thompson said. “I am really going to miss the job and everyone I have gotten to know.”

Rec Reappointment
Paul Clark was re-appointed to the CCSD2 Recreation Board as the representative of the CCSD2 board for one year.
Each board member took time to thank the staff that had been with CCSD2 and wished them well with their futures.
Plaque Question
Bill Klemola told the board that a plaque dedicated to his deceased wife Charlotte was missing from the outside gym at HEM that had been put up some years before and last seen since her funeral. His son John read a letter to council that asked the council to try and remedy the situation.
Clark told the family, there has been research done on the missing plaque and unfortunately there is not a person that has worked at HEM in the past decades that can remember the plaque. He said there was no disrespect meant to the family, but the missing plaque just could not be remembered by anyone, even those who had been with the school since the gym was built.
Copeland and Steve Priest, principal from HEM told the Klemola family that they had looked for the plaque everywhere. They asked if there was any picture of it to replicate it. The family did not have a picture of the plaque to show the board. The board said when a picture can be found, a plaque will be made to replace the one lost.

The consent agenda was approved. Decker Equipment was awarded the construction bid for the CCSD2 lockers.
