Panther girls team takes 7th overall, boys team 5th as individuals grab wins, All-State honors
The Saratoga Panthers’ track season has come to a close with the conclusion of the State Track and Field Championship in Casper this weekend. While the teams placed well, the boys placed 5th and the girls placed 7th, it was in the individual awards that Saratoga did the best. The Panthers returned home with five All-State honors and Sam Schneider as State Champion in two events.
Girls at State
Beginning with field events, sophomore Savannah Wells placed 2nd in the long jump with a distance of 16’1.75” and earned All-State honors. Other jumping competitors from Saratoga also placed well, with Jenna Dew placing 3rd in the high jump with a height of 4’8” and 7th in triple jump with a distance of 30’2.5”. Taylor Bennett placed 4th in the triple jump with a distance of 33’.
In additional field events, Shianne Baker placed 7th in the discus with a distance of 95’8” and finished in the shot put with a distance of 30’5.25”. Tiffany Bauer also competed in the discus, finishing with a distance of 77’7”, and the shot put, throwing a distance of 30’4”.
On the track, it was the relay teams that did well. The 400 meter relay team of Wells, Mychaela Jackman, Bennett and Melissa Pinedo placed 2nd on Friday afternoon, finishing with a time of 53.9. The other relay team to place 2nd was the 1600 meter relay team of Pinedo, Kaitlyn Campbell, Kelly Glode and Wells on Saturday with a time of 4:33.31.
In the 1600 meter medley relay, the team of K. Campbell, Pinedo, Dew and Jackman placed 4th on Thursday with a time of 4:47.28. The 3200 meter relay team of Sam Fiedor, Jaden Campbell, Nikki Bauer and Glode placed 7th on Friday, finishing with a time of 12:29.87.
With a total of 46 points, the Saratoga girls placed 7th overall.
Boys at State
In the field events, Schneider leapt into two 1st place finishes and one 2nd place finish, giving him All-State honors in three events. In the high jump, Schneider placed 1st on Friday with a height of 6’4”. He also placed 1st in the long jump on Thursday, finishing with a distance of 20’8.5”, and 2nd in the triple jump on Friday with a distance of 43’.75”.
Sophomore Noah Rimmer earned a spot as the state runner up in shot put, throwing a distance of 44’9”. Along with placing 2nd on Friday, Rimmer also earned All-State honors. Rimmer also competed in the discus, finishing with a distance of 113’9”.
Gavin Bartlett placed 6th in the pole vault on Friday with a height of 10’6”.
On the track, Bartlett placed 7th in the 3200 meter run on Thursday as he finished with a time of 11:13.08.
In the relay events, the 400 meter relay team of Jeremiah Debar, Rimmer, Teegan Love and Logan Seahorn placed 3rd on Friday with a time of 47.51. In the 1600 meter relay, the team of Schneider, Love, Debar and Seahorn placed 2nd on Saturday with a time of 3:44.51. The team of Love, Rimmer, Seahorn and Debar placed 5th in the 1600 meter medley relay on Thursday with a time of 3:55.25. The team of Geoffrey Johnson, Bartlett, Alex Irby and Kelton Johnson placed 4th in the 3200 meter relay on Friday with a time of 4:42.19.
At the end of the state championship, the Saratoga boys placed 5th overall with a total of 64 points.
