Encampment athlete James takes first in State and All-State honors with discus throw, Peterson makes All-State with shot

With the conclusion of the State Track and Field Championship in Casper this weekend, the season for the Encampment Tigers has come to an end. They may not have returned home with any team victories, but the Tigers did leave with two All-State athletes and a State Champion in discus.

Girls at State

Sophomore Lizzi James secured her spot as a the discus State Champion on Friday afternoon, placing 1st in the finals with a distance of 111'1". Not only does her top placing make her a State Champion, but she also receives All-State honors for her throw. James also placed 6th in the shot put on Thursday, throwing a distance of 33'1".

Also placing in shot put was senior Noelle Peterson, who was the State runner-up with a throw of 35'. Along with placing 2nd in the state, Peterson also receives All-State honors.

In the track events, Amber Stubbs placed 4th in the 3200 meter run on Thursday, finishing with a time of 13:17. Stubbs also competed in a cold and snowy 1600 meter run on Saturday, where she placed 8th after finishing with a time of 6:13.

Lauren Buford, while not placing, finished the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:13 and the 800 meter run with a time of 2:45.

Boys at State

In the field events, Dalton Peterson placed 8th in the discus with a throw of 124'9". Peterson competed in two other field events, though he did not place. In shot put, Peterson threw a distance of 37'8" and, in triple jump, he finished with a distance of 37'9.25".

Also competing in field events were Dayne Anderson, who competed in shot put and discus. While he did not place, Anderson threw a distance of 37'7.25" in shot put and 102'6" in discus. Riley Hopkins competed in shot put, throwing a distance of 35'7" and Koye Gilbert competed in discus, finishing with a distance of 102'2".

On the track, Jarom Herring placed 4th in the 1600 meter run on Thursday with a time of 4:52. Herring also placed 6th in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:11. While he did not place, Herring finished the 800 meter run with a time of 2:09.

Peterson also competed in a track event, running the 200 meter dash in a time of 25.11.

Following the weekend in Casper, Encampment's track season comes to a close.
