Joint Powers Board elects to send water rate restructure plan to Saratoga Town Council
The Carbon County Impact Joint Powers Board (CCIJPB) voted to send their proposed water rate structure to Saratoga Town Council for approval during their meeting on May 8. As was reported previously (see “Paying for use” on page 10 of the April 17 Saratoga Sun), the CCIJPB held a public workshop before their April meeting where they tested the rate structure.
Following the workshop, Jon Nelson, town council representative on the CCIJPB, was provided the full year of billing for multiple accounts by Saratoga Town Clerk Suzie Cox. The intention of the full year of bills was for the board to get a better idea of how the rate structure would affect billing for individuals and businesses water bills.
During the May meeting, Nelson provided CCIJPB members in attendance with a more complete look at those changes. Those individuals included in the spreadsheet saw, at most, an increase of 50 cents with an average of a 10 or 11 cent difference on a monthly basis.
Russell Waldner, CCIJPB treasurer, made the motion to send the rate structure to the town council. Before being implemented, the rate structure will have to be put in the form of an ordinance and read three separate times at a Saratoga Town Council meeting. It is expected that, should the ordinance pass all three readings, it may go into effect shortly after the new fiscal year.
The next meeting of the CCIJPB will be at 6 p.m. on June 12 at the Saratoga Town Hall.
