Encampment track and field qualifies more athletes for State at Regionals in Shoshoni, will send 20 athletes to Casper for State meet
The Encampment Tigers ventured up to Shoshoni over the weekend to compete in the 1A/2A West Regional Invite as they had one final chance to increase the number of student athletes going to the State Track and Field Championship. With that in mind, the Tigers were able to qualify several more athletes for the state championship with 20 qualifications for state. Encampment also returned home with one of their own as a regional champion in shot put.
Girls at Regionals
In the field events, senior Noelle Peterson placed 1st in shot put, throwing a distance of 33'8.5" and making her regional champion along with qualifying her for state. Follow Peterson in shot put was Lizzi James, who placed 4th after throwing a distance of 31'7.5" and also qualifying for state.
Meanwhile, on the track, senior Lauren Buford secured herself two spots at the state championship after placing 7th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:12.96 and 8th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:45. Amber Stubbs secured herself in the long distance runs, placing 5th in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:21 and 2nd in the 3200 meter run with a time of 13:46.
Boys at Regionals
Beginning with field events, Dalton Peterson placed 3rd in discus and 5th in shot put with a distance of 125'1" and 38'9.5", respectively, and qualified for state in both events. Following Peterson in discus was Dayne Anderson, who placed 6th in discus with a throw of 102'1" and Koye Gilbert, who placed 7th with a throw of 101'4". Both Anderson and Gilbert qualified for state.
Following Peterson in shot put was Riley Hopkins, who placed 7th after throwing a distance of 38'4.75", and Anderson, who placed 8th with a distance of 37'8.5". Both Hopkins and Anderson qualified for state.
Peterson also qualified for state in the triple jump, placing 5th with a distance of 37'7.5". Senior Kyler Miller qualified for state in the long jump, placing 8th with a distance of 18'.
On the track, Miller qualified for state in the 110 meter hurdles, finishing 4th with a time of 17.89, and the 300 meter hurdles, finishing 7th with a time of 47.98. Peterson qualified for state in the 200 meter dash, placing 5th with a time of 25.43.
Jarom Herring qualified for state in the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter run events. In the 800, Herring placed 5th with a time of 2:07, in the 1600 he placed 2nd with a time of 4:50 and in the 3200 he placed 3rd with a time of 10:54.
The State Track and Field Championship begins at 3 p.m. on May 16 with the 3200 meter run.
