Tigers switch gears for weekend

Encampment deals with Shane Brock Invite cancellation by heading to Wiseman Invite in Burns, prequalifies two for State at event

The Encampment Tigers improvised over the weekend as they dealt with the cancellation of the Shane Brock Invite in Lander, originally scheduled for May 4, and made the decision to go to the Wiseman Invite in Burns on May 3.

"When we were notified that Thermopolis would not be having their throwing events due to the wet field, we made a last minute decision to attend the meet in Burns," said Kegan Willford, head coach of Encampment Track and Field. Being the week before regionals, we wanted to give every athlete one more opportunity to compete in their events. It ended up being a good decision because we had two throwers, Dalton Peterson and Lizzi James, prequalify in throwing events."

In the varsity field events, James placed 5th in shot put with a throw of 33'10". This distance has secured James a spot at the State Track and Field Championship. Following James in shot put was Noelle Peterson, who placed 6th with a throw of 33'. James also placed in discus, putting herself in 8th place with a throw of 96'5".

In junior varsity field events, Grace Tieszen placed 1st in the triple jump with a distance of 27'4.75".
