Tigers track faces breezy conditions at Cheyenne Central Invite, coach says meet helped with conditioning

On Thursday, the Encampment Tigers were able to hit the road and head to Cheyenne to compete in the Cheyenne Central Invite. While there, the student athletes of Encampment Track and Field placed in several events.

“It was really windy at this meet,” said Kegan Willford, head coach for Encampment track, “however, it was still good for the kids to get on a track and compete against other athletes. Our athletes are still working on their conditioning and this meet helped with that as well.”

Girls at Cheyenne

Beginning with field events, senior Noelle Peterson placed 6th and 7th in shot put and discus with a distance of 29’11.50” and 88’6”, respectively. Lizzi James placed 4th in discus, throwing a distance of 106’11”. Senior Lauren Buford placed 5th in the triple jump with a distance of 27’10” and Grace Tieszen placed 8th in the triple jump with a distance of 26’6.25”.

In the track events, Buford placed 8th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:59 while Amber Stubbs placed 8th in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:46.

Boys at Cheyenne

Starting off with field events, Senior Kyler Miller placed 3rd in the triple jump with a distance of 33’5” and Dalton Peterson placed 7th in discus with a throw of 111’6”.

In the track events, Miller placed 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 47.70. Jarom Herring placed 3rd in both the 800 and 1600 meter run. In the 800 meter run, Herring finished with a time of 2:20 while, in the 1600 meter run, he finished with a time of 4:58.

The next meet for the Encampment Tigers will be much closer to home as they only have to travel to Saratoga for the Burt Willford Invite beginning at 9:30 a.m. on April 27.
