Saratoga American Legion Auxiliary nominates Encampment junior to governmental learning experience
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 54 of Saratoga has selected Riley as a delegate to attend the 77th session of the American Legion Auxiliary Wyoming Girls State program to be held at LCCC in Cheyenne. Riley was selected for her outstanding achievements in school and community.
"I heard about the Girls' State program from a couple of previous participants that had said it was a great experience and opportunity to learn more about our government" said Riley when asked why she was interested in going to Girls' State.
The program is designed as a practical experience in self-government, based on the Wyoming State Government, and educates young women in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American Citizenship.
In addition to being junior class president at Encampment High School, Riley is also the current president of FFA and has qualified for State in the Prepared Speech Competition by placing as co-winner at Regionals. She is now competing to qualify for Nationals. She has also received the Silver Congressional Award, Bronze Congressional Award and Young Women in Excellence Award. Her favorite subjects are Chemistry, Biology, History and English.
When asked where she plans to be in 10 years, her reply was "I would like to have a degree in the medical field." Perhaps that is why she has requested to be a candidate for the office of County Coroner at Girls' State.
