Career Day April 12

Business operators encouraged to share the details of their careers as students visit local establishments

The annual fun and educational day for eighth grade students called “Business Career Day” will be held on Friday, April 12. The goal of the day is to expose students to rich and diverse career opportunities and workplaces. The Saratoga/Platte Valley Chamber of Commerce and Saratoga, Encampment and Hanna-Elk Mountain-Medicine Bow Schools will partner to arrange for about 50 eighth grade students to visit our local businesses. Students will learn great concepts such as passion and dedication at the business they visit.

Business owner/managers will give a tour of their facility, share a short oral presentation about the business’ mission and purpose, and inform students of the educational needs of employees (i.e. strong math skills). In addition, the owners will reveal fun historical tidbits of the business and/or of the profession and share the passion they hold for their career choice with the purpose to share information that would be beneficial for students as they embark on their journey to become part of the workforce.

The students and business participants will be treated to lunch at the SMHS, sponsored by Sinclair, Wyoming Refinery. In addition, guest speaker, Preethi Fernando, will speak about leadership qualities that everyone possesses.

Interested businesses may call the chamber at 326-8855 to register or follow the links in the weekly Chamber email. Is your business “non-traditional” Maybe you tele-commute, have a home-based business or work outside. We would still like to hear from you because our youth need to be aware of all career opportunities. The chamber appreciates the partnership between local businesses and our schools.

Without this collaboration, it would be more difficult to provide our youth with this great learning opportunity.

The Valley’s strongest business organization, the Saratoga/Platte Valley Chamber of Commerce represents the interests of over 185 businesses of all sizes and sectors. Its mission is to be the “go-to” center for businesses and visitors in the Good Times Valley.
