Encampment beats conference rivals to reclaim first in 1A Southwest

The rematches scheduled for the Encampment Tigers against the Cokeville Panthers (12-5, 3-3) on Friday and the Farson-Eden Pronghorns (16-4, 5-2) on Saturday saw the Tigers return to No. 1 in the standings for the 1A Southwest Conference as they defeated both conference foes on their home courts with just over a week to go before the regional tournament.

vs. Cokeville

The rematch against the orange and black panthers was a quick turnaround as the Tigers had hosted Cokeville for a rescheduled game during Encampment’s homecoming week. While the Cokeville Panthers had seemed like they would win that game, the Tigers pulled it out in the final seconds to end with game with a 4 point lead, 60-56.

When hosted by Cokeville, the Encampment boys ultimately won by the same point margin as they defeated the Panthers 56-52. The defeat of Cokeville gave the Tigers their first of two conference wins over the weekend.

Sophomore Dalton Peterson led Encampment in their match against Cokeville with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Junior Reid Schroeder followed with 11 points and 5 assists, senior Kyler Miller scored 11 points and had 8 rebounds and senior Sean Stewart scored 9 points and had 8 rebounds.

Farson-Eden

When the Tigers last faced Farson-Eden, it was on their homecourt and the Pronghorns left Tiger Nation with a win as Encampment trailed by 5 points, 50-55. This time, the Tigers were the ones who walked away with a win. With a score of 67-57, the Tigers doubled the lead that Farson-Eden had over them during their first game and secured their second conference win of the weekend.

Stewart led the team against the Pronghorns, scoring 16 points. Junior Dayne Anderson scored 15 points, followed by Schroeder with 11 points and 9 assists, Peterson with 11 points and 6 rebounds and Freshman Koye Gilbert with 7 points.

Following their winning weekend, the Encampment Tigers are 17-1 for the season and 6-1 for conference. Encampment has three final regular season games this week as they prepare for the regional tournament.

First, the Tigers will be hosted on Thursday by the Saratoga Panthers (10-7, 2-4)for a rescheduled game at 5 p.m., on Friday the Tigers will travel to Rock River to play the Longhorns at 4 p.m. and on Saturday the North Park Wildcats will be hosted by Encampment at noon.
