HEM girls beat Wheatland Sophomores, Midwest. Lose in Lingle and have player taken to hospital
The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School girls basketball won two out of three contests the past week. Both the Wheatland Sophmores and Midwest lost to the Lady Miners. The Lady Miners lost to Lingle.
Wheatland Sophomores
The Lady Bulldogs came to HEM on Feb. 5 and were beaten handily by the Lady Miners 40-18. HEM took control from the onset and, as it became clear that Lady Bulldogs were no match for the home team, head coach Jackie Jones utilized many of her players that did not get much playing time in more competitive games. She said the game was a good opportunity to give all her players more court time.
Midwest
The Lady Miners were not done hammering a team as they met the Lady Oilers. They won that game by a very lopsided win of 53-10 on Friday.
"Our game with Midwest allowed us to play a lot of girls," Jones said. "They (Midwest) are a team that is regrouping and developing and our girls played well against them."
Amy Campbell ended with a triple double scoring 25 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and snagging 13 steals. Her twin sister, Madison, scored 16 points hitting four three pointers.
Besides the play of the Campbell sisters, Jones had high praise for freshman T'ylsa Solaas.
"T'ylsa had a great game feeding the ball inside offensively and playing good hustle defense," Jones said.
Lingle
The Lingle game on Saturday was scary, not just because they lost, but because M. Campbell took a fall with other players falling on top of her. She had to be taken by ambulance to Torrington.
"The Lady Miners had everything working in the first half and then the tale of two halves started to happen," Jones said. "We quickly had four of our starters in foul trouble, and Taylar Scott led a rotating lineup in that second half. She worked hard trying to get her team rallied and scored nine points of her own."
A. Campbell led the Lady Miners with 11 points.
Then in the 4th quarter, M. Campbell went hard to the floor and several players from both teams landed on top of her.
"She was transported by ambulance to Torrington, and her teammates finished the game with more than the final score on their minds," Jones said. "Madison's CT scan came back with good results, but her return to play is unknown at this time."
The Lady Doggers beat the Lady Miners 56-37.
Jones had praise for Lingle High School.
"The concern and care Madison received in the Lingle school was very much appreciated for sure," Jones said.
The Lady Miners are 12-4 overall and 2-1 in conference.
The next scheduled game is at 5 p.m. on Feb, 12 against Rock River in Rock River.
