Lady Tigers drop two

Encampment girls working to refine their game as they lose weekend games to Rock River and Baggs

The seven-member Encampment Lady Tigers continued to work on finding their footing on the hardwood as they hosted the Rock River Lady Longhorns (14-2, 0-1) on Friday evening and the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Lady Rattlers (5-7, 2-1) at noon on Saturday. Both games saw the girls fight on their home court, but ultimately lose both games.

Lady Longhorns

"We came out flat in this game and never really got it going throughout the whole game," said Clint Bromley, head coach of the Lady Tigers. "This was probably the worst that our bigs played all year and all three of them had a subpar game. If we are going to be successful they all have to play well."

The Lady Longhorns immediately began to run the court against Encampment, ending the first quarter 9-18 and keeping a substantial lead against the Lady Tigers. Encampment's guards tried to fight a mounting lead but consistent 3-pointers from Rock River kept the Lady Longhorns ahead.

"I thought this was the best that our guards have played so far and I am excited to see how they progress through the next seven games," Bromley said.

Sophomore Shiann Finney led the Lady Tigers in scoring with a total of 7 points while fellow sophomore Lizzi James scored 6 points and had 8 rebounds. Senior Noelle Peterson followed with 5 points and 7 rebounds.

As the game ended, Encampment trailed by 30 points as Rock River won 26-56.

Lady Rattlers

This was the second game against LSRV for the Encampment girls, who lost when they visited the Lady Rattlers. The follow-up proved just as difficult for the Lady Tigers, even with home court advantage.

"This was a 3-point game at halftime and we didn't get off the bench in the second half," Bromley said. "In conference play you have to display intensity for 32 minutes and we only got it done for 16 (minutes). I thought that we played great defense in the first half and only allowed them 18 points, so that is encouraging."

According to Bromley, the goal for the Lady Tigers is to find the energy to finish the second half which will be a challenge for a team with only seven members.

Peterson led the team in scoring against LSRV with a total of 14 points. James followed with 7 points and 12 rebounds and senior Lauren Buford had 13 rebounds.

The two losses over the weekend put the Lady Tigers at 5-9 for the season and 1-3 for conference. This week, during homecoming, Encampment will host the Cokeville Lady Panthers (13-2, 2-0) at 4 p.m. on Jan. 31st and the Hanna, Elk Mountain and Medicine Bow (HEM) Lady Miners (9-2, 2-0) at noon on Feb. 2 for their homecoming game.
