Lady Miners coach pleased with scoring being shared across team
The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School girls basketball team went to Guernsey to play the Lady Vikings on Jan. 19 and came away with a win 55-36.
“The Lady Miners had a very balanced attack against Guernsey,” Head Girls Basketball Coach Jackie Jones said.
The leading scorer for the Lady Miners was Madison Campbell with 15 points.
“Madison led the way with 15 points, 14 rebounds and five blocked shots,” Jones said.
The Lady Vikings have not had a great season being 2-10 overall and 0-3 in the conference. Playing the Lady Miners added to their woes who are 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
The win with the scoring being balanced pleased their coach immensely and she said there were solid playing minutes by all of the players.
M. Campbell’s twin sister, Amy, scored 12 points as did Taylar Scott.
“Madison and Taylar were great floor leaders, and it spurred great plays from Adrienne Broadwater,” Jones said. “She provided key minutes with a few of our girls getting in early foul trouble.”
Jones said the tear the Lady Miners had in the second quarter was the beginning of the end for the Lady Vikings.
“We had a big second quarter outscoring Guernsey 20-7,” Jones said. “We were able to keep that momentum in the second half.”
Jones left Guernsey feeling great about the Lady Miners as a team.
“I am very proud of the girls as always,” Jones said.
The next scheduled game is at 3 p.m. on Jan. 25 against the Lady Rams in Dubois.
